PhotoCraft v0.1.1: Photomerge, HDR merge, Variables, Timeline

PhotoCraft v0.1.1, summarised from its commits: Photomerge, Merge to HDR Pro, Camera Raw Filter, Variables, a video Timeline and faster saves.

v0.1.1Released Oct 3, 2026Official release notes on GitHub

PhotoCraft v0.1.1 followed the first release by a day. Its GitHub release has no written notes, so this page summarises the 47 commits between v0.1.0 and v0.1.1 from their commit messages. It filled in much of the Photoshop menu tree: photo-merging tools, data-driven graphics, a video timeline, and faster saving. Many of these arrived as first versions, so expect them to be rough.

Highlights

  • Photo tools: Photomerge (panoramas), Merge to HDR Pro, Lens Correction, Adaptive Wide Angle, Crop and Straighten Photos, and a Camera Raw Filter dialog (Basic, curves, mixer, grading, detail, effects). Vanishing Point planes were added to the engine only.
  • Variables and Data Sets: Image › Variables lets you bind layer visibility, text and pixel replacement to data sets, import data sets from CSV, and export one file per data set.
  • Timeline and video layers: a Window › Timeline panel with Play/Pause, video layers built from an image or an image-sequence folder, Video Frames to Layers, and Render Video to an image sequence or animated GIF.
  • Faster saving and export: the commit notes report PNG export 7x, PSD save 4x and .pcraft save 3.6x faster, plus several filters parallelised across CPU cores.
  • Modern Brightness/Contrast now follows Photoshop's curve shape instead of a hard-clipping linear scale.
  • A new app icon, wired up for the macOS Dock, Windows taskbar and Linux launchers.

New tools and features

  • Gradients, Patterns, Styles, Shapes, Tool Presets and Clone Source panels, and a Custom Shape tool.
  • Character and Paragraph Styles, a Glyphs panel and Check Spelling.
  • Image › Analysis (ruler, count, measurement scale and log), a Notes panel, extra Proof Setup options and New/Delete/Lock Workspace.
  • Layer › New › Frame from Layers, Edit › Presets › Migrate Presets, and Image › Trap for CMYK prepress.
  • The default interface brightness changed to Pro Medium Gray.
  • By the project's own parity check, every item in Photoshop's menu tree now has a live command (625 of 625). The commit that recorded this notes that depth and fidelity still remain, so a menu item existing does not mean it is complete.

Automation (CLI & MCP)

  • A headless JSON-lines server on stdio or loopback TCP (photocraft-cli serve), and an MCP command_batch tool for both headless and bridged sessions.
  • document.inspect reports Variables, data sets and video layers.

Fixes and stability

  • Printing uses a unique spool file per call, so printing two documents with the same name no longer overwrites one with the other.
  • A deadlock in the effect-map blur was fixed.
  • Windows release assets no longer include .wixpdb debug-symbol files.

Breaking changes or things to know

  • Two release candidates, v0.1.1-rc.4 and v0.1.1-rc.5, were published before v0.1.1 and appear on GitHub as full releases. They are not stable releases; issue #380 (open as of 9 October 2026) tracks the missing pre-release flag. Use v0.1.1 or newer instead.
  • PhotoCraft was early alpha at this point.
