Run PhotoCraft in your browser

PhotoCraft is a free, open-source image editor with layers, masks, adjustment layers and PSD support. Its official web build compiles the whole editor to WebAssembly, and this page runs it straight from photocraft.im: no install, no account, and the images you open never leave your device.

PhotoCraft v0.6.0 · official web build · opens in a new tab

Before you start

  • Save your work often

There is no autosave or crash recovery in the browser. Use File › Save or File › Export, which download a file to your computer. Since v0.6.0 the editor asks before you close or reload a tab with unsaved changes, but work in a crashed tab can’t be recovered.

  • Some shortcuts belong to the browser

Ctrl+W, Ctrl+N and Ctrl+T (Cmd on a Mac) always go to the browser, never to the editor, and F5 or Ctrl+R reloads the page. Tip: in full screen (F11), most shortcuts reach the editor.

  • English interface only

The web build doesn’t follow your browser language yet, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean interface text shows up as empty boxes. The desktop apps have a full Chinese interface.

  • Your files stay on your device

Images are opened and edited locally and are never uploaded. Apart from loading its own files from this site, the editor makes no network requests. Preferences are kept in your browser’s local storage.

  • Big images: use the desktop app

The web build runs as 32-bit WebAssembly on a single thread, so very large images and big PSDs can be slow or run out of memory. The desktop app handles them much better.

If the editor doesn’t start

PhotoCraft draws with WebGPU and switches to WebGL2 on its own. If you see a blank or broken canvas, open it with another renderer:

Questions

Is PhotoCraft online free?

Yes. PhotoCraft is free, open-source software (MIT OR Apache-2.0), and the web version needs no account or sign-up. This site shows ads on its own pages, never inside the editor.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Images are opened and edited in your browser, on your own device. The editor only downloads its own files from photocraft.im/app/ and never sends your images anywhere. Save and Export download files to your computer.

Why is the interface in English?

On the web, PhotoCraft doesn’t detect your browser language yet, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean interface text renders as empty boxes (upstream issue #1615). Until that’s fixed, the web version is English only. The desktop apps have a full Chinese interface.

Should I use the web version or the desktop app?

The web version is handy for trying PhotoCraft or making quick edits on a computer without installing anything. For regular work, large images and big PSDs, use the desktop app: it isn’t limited by browser memory, every shortcut works, and it has a full Chinese interface. Phones and tablets aren’t well supported yet.

How can I check that this is the official build?

The files at photocraft.im/app/ are the contents of photocraft-web-0.6.0.zip from the official GitHub release, unchanged. Download the zip, check its SHA-256 against SHA256SUMS.txt in the release, and compare the files inside with the ones your browser loads from /app/. Or host the same zip yourself.
