PhotoCraft v0.11.1: the Content-Aware Fill workspace and Arch Linux packages
PhotoCraft v0.11.1: Photoshop's Content-Aware Fill workspace, tool preset export, remembered print settings, Curves and Navigator shortcuts, Arch Linux packages.
PhotoCraft v0.11.1 came out on 20 October 2026, two days after v0.10.0. It is the release after v0.10.0: there is no v0.11.0 release or tag. The version was set to 0.11.0, but that build failed on FreeBSD, and about ten hours later the fix went out as 0.11.1 (8ede07b). Its release notes list 211 merged pull requests from 58 contributors, 24 of them first-time contributors; four of those entries are integration batches that merged other listed pull requests together. The README still counts 67 tools. The headline is Photoshop's Content-Aware Fill workspace; most of the rest is many smaller fixes that make tools, crops, type and actions behave the way Photoshop does. PhotoCraft is still early alpha, so expect rough edges.
Unlike v0.10.0's, these release notes have no scorecard section. The project's scorecard (docs/scorecard.md) barely moved since v0.10.0: the only change in its summary is that 25 of 169 settings do nothing, against 26 of 168 before.
Highlights
- The Content-Aware Fill workspace. Edit › Content-Aware Fill… opens a full-window workspace like Photoshop's instead of a plain dialog. Paint where the fill may sample from with the Sampling Brush, change the fill area with the Lasso, watch the result in a Preview panel, and Apply several fills before leaving (#2376). The preview now runs at full resolution, so it matches the result (#6838).
- Tool presets travel. Edit › Presets › Export/Import Presets… has a Tools choice, so saved tool presets, such as crop presets, move between computers (#6889).
- Printing: File › Print remembers the last print's printer, paper, colour handling, position and marks after a relaunch, as Photoshop does (#7526). Save as PDF gets a Browse… button instead of a bare path field (#7586).
- More of Photoshop's shortcuts. With the Curves dialog open, Ctrl/⌘-click on the image adds a point at that pixel's tone, and Shift+Ctrl/⌘-click adds one on each of R, G and B; RGB and Grayscale only, and not yet in the Properties panel (#7473). Ctrl/⌘-drag in the Navigator zooms to the rectangle you draw (#7140). On AZERTY keyboards, plain
,and;shortcuts follow the typed character, so the two brush hardness keys no longer do the same thing (#7521). See /guides/shortcuts. - Photoshop's options in more dialogs: Lens Blur can take an alpha channel as its depth map (#7508), Liquify's Show Backdrop gets Use and Mode (#7644), and Assign Profile and Convert to Profile get Preview (#6825).
- New packages: Arch Linux packages (
.pkg.tar.zst) for x86_64 and aarch64, and a FreeBSD tarball for aarch64.
New tools and features
- The workspace in detail: its tools are the Sampling Brush, Lasso, Hand and Zoom, with Photoshop's keys (B, L, H, Z). The sampling area shows as a tinted overlay, and Ctrl/⌘+Z undoes the last stroke or lasso edit inside the workspace. When opened without settings, it fills to a new layer. The settings are remembered. The Lasso's Feather and Anti-alias options and the Preview panel's own Hand and Zoom tools are not done yet (#2376). A fill with nothing to sample is refused instead of filling black (#6670).
- Tools: Sample All Layers is each tool's own setting, as in Photoshop, instead of one switch shared by twelve tools (#5570). The Spot Healing Brush trail is Photoshop's dark half-opaque tint (#7374); a preset picked in Tool Presets fits the Crop frame to its ratio (#7144); a 1 px Pencil line paints the same pixels whichever end it starts from (#6341).
- Type: the Character and Paragraph panels follow the Type units preference (#6505); right-clicking committed text opens the type layer menu (#7430); a click inside the paragraph box away from the glyphs moves the caret (#7606); after picking a font, ↑ and ↓ step through the fonts (#7426); Korean paragraph text wraps between words, not syllables (#6038).
- Layers and editing: Edit › Copy with no selection takes fill and adjustment layers whole, and Paste recreates them (#7497). Stamp Visible fills an empty active layer instead of adding another (#6828). Replace Color gets a Result swatch (#6344), and the Layer Mask Feather slider has fine steps near 0 px (#6727). Ctrl/⌘ drags a guide with every tool that moves guides (#6294).
- Interface: document tabs keep their whole names, the ones that don't fit move to the » menu, and that menu lists every open document (#4525). File › Open has a file type filter for each format (#6346). Window › Arrange keeps each tile's document and gives every tile rulers (#6039). Edit Toolbar…, Quick Mask and Screen Mode are in the toolbar in every theme (#4680). Preferences › Interface › Show File Name In Title can hide the file name from the title bar (#5129), and with Enable Gestures off, touch-screen pinch and twist are ignored (#7478).
- Colour: Color Settings lists the installed profiles of each working space (#6359), and Save for Web and Quick Export keep the photo's EXIF when metadata is set to All (#7471).
- Speed: dragging an adjustment slider in the Properties panel refreshes only what the view shows, 4.2 times faster in the PR's test (#7155). Type layers rasterize on all cores in the desktop app (#7022). Mesh warp is about twice as fast (#6800), Stack Mode's statistics up to 2.2 times (#7118), and Camera Raw's Shadows and Highlights another 1.5 times (#7141), with the same pixels as before.
File formats
- Krita: areas Krita stored uncompressed, often busy or photographic tiles, open with the right colours instead of scrambled ones (#7083).
- EXR: Preferences › File Handling › Open color-less EXR as ACEScg now applies to File › Open, drag and drop, Open Recent and Open EXR Parts. In v0.10.0 the usual ways of opening a file ignored it (#6783).
- JPEG: guides Photoshop stores in a JPEG open with it; flat TIFFs carrying guides get them too (#7348).
- Layered TIFF: a document with many layers no longer gets PSB-style layer data it doesn't need, which made Photoshop open only the composite. The PR could not check the new files in Photoshop itself (#5514).
- Saving over a file keeps its metadata: on Windows the Mark of the Web and explicit permissions, on macOS its ACLs, and extended attributes (#7206). Saving onto a broken symlink writes to its target (#6649).
- Smaller fixes: OpenRaster layer locks no longer change on save (#7019), PNG keeps a stereo file's pairing (#6285), EXR colour channels stay within one layer (#5866), and a
.pcraftfile with out-of-range numbers is refused when opened (#6863).

Languages
The official builds still include 21 interface languages. Korean uses consistent terms in the Gradient Editor, Object Selection messages and shortcut hints (#6882), Ukrainian gets more translations (#6153), and the brush size and hardness rows in the shortcut list are translated in every language (#6831). See /guides/language.
Automation (CLI & MCP)
edit.contentAwareFilltakes the workspace's sampling strokes and fill area edits, and the control channel can drive the workspace step by step (#2376).filter.blur.lensBlurtakesdepthMap: "channel"withdepthChannel(#7508).- Actions: Photoshop Shadows/Highlights steps play (#5854); Apply Layer Comp is recorded by the comp's name, so it plays in any document (#7790); a function key for an action can take Shift and Command (#7674); a Paint Bucket step keeps its colour through
.atn(#7208). Save Actions writes.atnfiles atomically, so a failed write keeps the old file (#7403). See /guides/actions. file.saveACopyrefuses the document's own file unlessoverwriteis set (#7456), a control token works in either letter case (#6476), and a desktop flag given without its value is a usage error (#6499).- The repository's MCP guide now starts with installing
photocraft-cliand registering it with MCP clients, and notes that the Linux.deband.rpmpackages already install/usr/bin/photocraft-cli(#7663).

Web build
The online editor on this site doesn't run this build; it has moved on to a newer one. The v0.11.1 web zip is 11.0 MiB. Its wasm, shipped gzipped as one part of 11,470,644 bytes, is 25,060,526 bytes (23.9 MiB) unpacked, up from v0.10.0's 24,748,731 bytes.
- On Apache servers with
mod_mime_magic, this build fails to start, as v0.10.0's did: the server marks the gzipped part so the browser unpacks it before the app does. v0.12.0 handles that (#7639). - The Content-Aware Fill workspace works in the browser, but its preview is computed when the pointer comes up, since the web build has no threads (#2376). The faster multi-core type rendering is desktop only for the same reason.
- Chinese, Japanese and Korean text still shows as empty boxes in the web build, in type layers and in the interface. The web build has no CJK font yet (#1615, still open). Use the desktop app for CJK text.

Fixes and stability
- Linux: crash-recovery autosaves move out of the config folder (#6941); the file dialog check notices a portal with no file chooser behind it (#6422); Reveal never hands a file to
xdg-open(#7168); in the Flatpak on Wayland, a paste that finds nothing says why and how to paste anyway (#5279). - GPU: corruption on AMD with Vulkan after partial canvas updates is fixed (#6438), and start-up no longer asks the graphics card for more than it offers (#6050).
- Crop and rotate: Rotate Canvas Arbitrary keeps the angle at full precision, so rotated crops land on the pixel (#7370); Perspective Crop and Rotate Arbitrary keep the Background opaque (#7139); Esc and Enter go to an open options bar popup first (#7388).
- Filters: Twirl, Pinch and Spherize fill the inscribed ellipse (#5871), Lens Flare no longer darkens 32-bit pixels above 1.0 (#5786), and the Histogram counts the document's pixels instead of a blurred thumbnail (#6724).
- Paste with Ctrl/⌘+V works whichever key is let go first (#6360), and menu rows scrolled out of view no longer open their submenus (#6356).
- Security: Affinity files get bounds on compound geometry and nested spot colours (#6486, #6506),
.aseswatch files over 10,000 groups are refused (#5811), transforms and retouching strokes check their sizes before allocating, and numeric overflow is rejected before a document changes (#6493, #5992, #6502).

Breaking changes or things to know
- There is no v0.11.0. The version went straight from 0.10.0 to 0.11.1.
- Sample All Layers is per tool now. Turning it on for the Magic Wand or Paint Bucket no longer turns it on for Blur, Sharpen and Smudge. Check it on the tools you use (#5570).
- Edit › Content-Aware Fill… opens the workspace. The command with settings, from actions and automation, still runs straight away (#2376).
- Linux crash-recovery autosaves moved from
~/.config/photocraft/Recoveryto$XDG_STATE_HOME/photocraft/Recovery, by default~/.local/state/photocraft/Recovery. Old autosaves are moved at startup. macOS is unchanged (#6941). - AZERTY: Ctrl/⌘+; can still be read as Ctrl/⌘+, (#7521).
- The new packages aren't in the README yet. The v0.11.1 README still lists only the AppImage, Flatpak,
.deb,.rpmand tarball for Linux, and only x86_64 for FreeBSD. The next release, v0.12.0, doesn't include the FreeBSD aarch64 tarball again. - Windows 7 and 8: PhotoCraft still needs Windows 10 or later (#2310), and the v0.11.1 MSI still has no installer check for older versions.
